Antun Toni Blazinovic (1965)composer
Even though I've done many different things, music has always been present in my work. I started
performing at a fairly young age, but only after the war in Croatia, at the age of 27, I made the
decision to pursue music professionally. The general climate and the relative isolation of
Croatia during and after the war had a great impact on my work. As an author and a performer,
I've been focused on finding new elements in music, as well as engaging with the traditional
Croatian music in a new way. During the 90's, I participated in the ethno revival in Croatian
music. A desire for independence prompted me to start my own label, Arion. I currently work with
Only Bass and Drum, a band I founded in 1990. The music I make can be described as a synthesis
of contemporary and traditional sound. It's a polyrhythmic type of music that doesn't use 4/4
measure, which I consider to be an interesting direction for music, even pop music. In addition
to my work with Only Bass and Drum, I have written a score for some dozen theater productions
and two films.

Blazinovic's song as one of nine best electronic works made in that

Sopila is an old wind instrument, typical for the northern Adriatic coast region. Toni describes sopila as an instrument whose sound can inspire fear, but at the same time drive it away.
